M1 Introduction, Resources, and To-Dos
Introduction
⭐ Interesting Fact: More than 200,000 preventable deaths occur in the US every year. Can you guess what the leading cause of these deaths is?
- Car accident? Nope.
- A fall? Not quite!
The leading cause is accidental poisoning. This includes drug overdoses, which took more than 107,500 lives in 2023. You may be wondering how someone accidentally poisons themselves (besides a drug overdose). This statistic highlights the importance of understanding the factors that contribute to safety in our daily lives, including things we may not be aware are dangerous.

We will review the Canvas course structure and the associated course requirements, as well as Chapter 1 information, including a look at the factors of safety and the components that determine hazard, risk, and loss. A review of behavior will also be examined to determine its influence on safety.
