Video: How to Design an Online Course? (5:43)

Online

Online courses are developed well in advance of the semester using techniques that primarily involve asynchronous (not live) instruction. They are designed for students who are specifically seeking these types of classes.

  • Create a plan to communicate with students so they understand the course and the design by drafting expectations of the students and what they can expect from you as the online instructor. Utilizing the announcements in Canvas can help you relay your expectations as the course continues through the semester.
  • Create a routine for your online learners that has guidance, structure, and flexibility through consistent course flow and design. Each module or topic should be predictable to the students as they move through the course. For example, using a chronological module layout can promote consistency and predictability for students.
